Vintage by the Sea 2014
Lancashire Tourism Event of the Year
On Thursday 6 November, The Midland’s entry won Lancashire Tourism Event of the Year for Vintage by the Sea at the annual Visit Lancashire awards. Twenty of the county’s finest tourism businesses and a Tourism Superstar received awards for excellence in their field, with English Lakes receiving two awards in total.
In 2013 The Midland created the Vintage by The Sea in collaboration with Hemingway Design to celebrate the buildings 80th anniversary of its opening in July 1933. The event encompassed all elements of the vintage era and offered the chance to step back into the 1930’s with a celebration of music & dancing, fashion, film, art & design, evocative food and cocktails. As well as several ticketed events, a programme of free and accessible content was developed which included pop up performances, walkabout theatre, a classic car show, rare film footage, pop up ‘Best in Show’ catwalks and dance classes. Our aim for the event was to create a memorable 80th celebration that befitted The Midland and set to set an annual event for Morecambe. Vintage by the Sea returned for 2014 bigger and better attracting 40,000 to Morecambe across the weekend. Planning is already underway for the next Vintage by the Sea festival.
